Art and Soul returns

We’re back! After a several year hiatus, Art and Soul is back – on Saturday, July 16th. Come shop at the used book sale, delight over baked goods, bid on that piece of artwork that will go in that perfect space on your wall, and purchase a raffle ticket for one of our beautiful baskets. We even have Beanie babies for sale! We are working hard getting the library ready for a busy day.

Art and Soul July 21 2018

The Long Island Community Library is in the midst of preparing for this year’s library fundraiser: Art and Soul. Yesterday a group of us sorted books into categories in one of the classrooms – categories include gardening, travel, cookbooks and food, biographies, history, children’s books, puzzles, and self-help books. Baskets are being created for raffling off. Annie is working away on gathering delicious food items to sell. Jeanne is hanging some beautiful artwork for the silent auction. So, mark your calendars! and come support your favorite island library.

Art & Soul 2016

We are pleased to announce that the Long Island Community Library’s 2016 fundraiser, Art & Soul, was a great success, thanks to all our generous library users and fans, who bought books, raffle tickets for baskets, artwork, and food. Special thanks to all the volunteers who made it happen, from schlepping books upstairs, to making baskets, to contributing art, to baking desserts. All was so appreciated! We made over $10,000, which will go so far in supporting the library. Thank you!

A Garden of Books

Tammy and I are enjoying the cool basement of the library these days, sorting books for the upcoming book sale on Saturday, which we are calling “A Garden of Books.” It’s a flower theme – the kids will be making the signs for the categories at story time on Friday morning, thanks to Patty T. We’re looking forward to seeing the community join us in a book swap of sorts, as I imagine that many who dropped off books to donate will be buying some (I know I will!).Heather's garden

The biggest category seems to be mysteries/thrillers/suspense, for all you mystery lovers, followed by romance, and general fiction. There is also a great selection of classics and westerns. There are also many children’s books, including chapter books and picture books. In the non-fiction category we have biography, history and politics, crafts, home décor and gardening, pets/animals, maritime/fishing/boating, and reference. There is also a delightful section of Maine books. And of course lots of videos/DVDs and audiobooks, for your viewing and listening pleasure!

So, those of you on the island on Saturday, please come join us! There may be some special treats (besides books) to make it worth your while, in addition to supporting your island library. Look forward to seeing you there!
